My husband and I were talking recently about what the happiest periods in our lives were, and I strongly believe mine is Right Now.
And then I thought about it a little more.
Our parents are all alive. Our siblings are alive. We visit them often. In fact, every Friday or so we visit my in-laws at their cabin.
Most of our aunts, uncles, and cousins are alive and well.
We have our first dog, and we love him deeply and spoil him.
We have a house, a safe place to be ourselves, and it requires minimal effort to maintain.
We both have wonderful careers with interesting work, and we like our coworkers.
We make enough money that we’re paying down debts and have a little to buy fun things like books and games. I have books I love reading all the time and whenever I want to read.
We both have working vehicles (mine just came back from the shop!).
Our health is stable if not perfect.
We’re so ridiculously in love that fighting is a rarity, and we fight fairly so it isn’t hurtful. This June will be NINE YEARS since we met!
We don’t have children eating up our time, energy, and money.
In fact we have a fair bit of time just for us to be together.
We’re not hurting for anything.
You know how you look back on days as the best days of your life?
We’re living them RIGHT NOW.

I am amazed, and I’m focusing on what I have rather than what stresses me, because I don’t want to miss this!
What is/was the happiest period of your life? Were you aware it was while you were living it? Do you have any regrets? Inquiring minds want to know!
I have to agree with you, right now seems to be the happiest time. I mean it’s been a crazy 13 yrs but still ridiculously happy with my husband. The kids are older so we have more time for ourselves as well as they have common interests as us so that helps. The beginning was rough, 2 young kids, immigration and separation from everything I knew. But now life isn’t perfect but we’ve both grown up, we make time for each other and find time for ourselves as well. He has his hobbies and I go camping. Other than this winter we’re relatively healthy and our bills are paid with food in the house so what else can I really ask for.
13 years! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. But this June will be my husband and my’s 9 year anniversary of meeting…
And I feel we’ve grown up a lot and are much more responsible about our money and responsibilities. Like real adults even!
