House on the Rock and Swollen Feet

We got to go to house on the rock!  There are no photos here because they don’t allow them, and I don’t want to share photos of my friends without their permission.  But my friend from Montreal came with her husband and two kids, and my friend from Madison came with her younger kid.  My husband came along to me, and my friend from Madison and I were the only ones who had ever been there before.

We had a ton of fun!  It took us about five hours all told, and my legs were killing me by the end.

My friend from Madison has gone many, many times and so she gave her son a mini tour which the people behind us listened attentively to much to my amusement.

The Infinity Room was just as I remembered, and people walking behind us made the room flex and sway.  I was okay with it, but I didn’t know some of my friend from Montreal’s family were afraid of heights.

I ran ahead in the whale section so I could look back and see the kids’ faces when they saw it for the first time.

The doll room is gone, and there’s a doll carousel instead now which is not nearly as creepy.

The circus collection has gotten out of hand.

The carousel is, of course, still amazing.

It was strange to see my friend from Montreal’s oldest is really a human being!  They’re 12, and they’ve reached the sort of rational adultish stage that I remember having at that age.

I sat down every chance I got, but my feet were killing me by the end of the day.  We had an early dinner at Culver’s and chatted for a long time, but we did go home eventually.  I had to call my dad and beg him to rush over and let Tundra out of his kennel so he could piddle and stretch.

It was a lot of fun, but it was a relief to get home and be alone with my husband.

Except then my feet SWELLED SO MUCH.  I called in to work to take a personal day, and I was glad I did because I couldn’t walk the next day between my feet swelling and my legs aching.

How do you even deal with walking that much?  Is there something I should have done to prevent it?  I put my feet up to help with the swelling, but it was awful.  Inquiring minds want to know!
