Romance Fail Or Why You Don’t Order Rings Online

When my husband and I got married five years ago, we picked out special rings… ones that are actually two rings in one that slip together.  They’re called puzzle rings most of the time, and we got them in brass because we were super broke at the time.

This is mine, unfolded so you can see how it comes apart:

Mine is still in good shape, but my husband’s is worn so thin I worry it will snap at any point.

I thought, I’ll get him a new one.

Oh!  And I’ll propose again to make it sweet!  I proposed to him, you see, so it echoes the past.

I poked around on Amazon until I could find a similar ring since the original company is no longer making them.

Stainless steel, very similar.

I looked up the size I originally ordered in (9) and bought one straightaway.

It arrived late this week, and I did the full shebang… got down on my knees, asked him to be my husband always, offered the ring box.  Not nearly so nerve wracking this time!

He said yes of course, took it out… and it was TOO SMALL.

ARGH!

In fact, it’s the same size as my ring.  I contacted the company, and they insisted they had sent a 9.  I wear a 7.  Much scowling ensued.

So I ordered AGAIN (fortunately it’s fairly cheap) in a size 10 this time, and I’M wearing the ring.

Romance, fail.

But it made my husband smile, so I’ll count that as a win.

Have you had any romantic gesture fails?  How did you smooth it over? Inquiring minds want to know!  Also, HOW DO GUYS EVEN PROPOSE.  That is SO hard!  Girls don’t give guys nearly enough credit.  *smile*

  1. I had to buy and try three wedding rings I found online before I found one that fit! I was determined that there was no way I was walking into a fancy jewelry store when I could find a better deal for us online. In my case they were all way too big! It all worked out in the end, though. 😁

  2. They’re a lot cheaper online, and you can find exactly what you want instead of paying more for a limited selection, so that’s nice. 🙂
