What is This New and Exciting Smell I’ve Discovered?

This weekend, my father-in-law was going through the freezer, and he sent home some frozen salmon with us from one of his fishing trips.

“Just cut off the not-pink parts,” he said.  It was a little freezer burned.

Mistake #1: Assuming it would take some time to thaw.

Mistake #2: Not putting it in a bowl.

Mistake #3: Not checking it before we went to my parents.

Last night, when we got home late, my husband opened the fridge and fish… juice… was EVERYWHERE and dribbling out onto the floor.

It wasn’t rotten.

But it was very fishy.  Oh, it was VERY fishy, very pungent.

So that was a half hour of clean up, and then I looked over the fish to see if it was salvageable.

I cut into it, looking for pink parts.

There were no pink parts.

The fish was so incredibly freezer burned that there was NOTHING to save.

So that was a lot of mess for no benefit.  How old was that fish!?!

What’s the last mess you had to clean up?  Was it self inflicted?  How do you get the smell of fish off your hands?  Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. When I first read the title of this post, I assumed you had taken a trip to New York City. 😆

I can’t think of anything worse than melted fish juice all over the place. I’m trying really hard to think of something worse, but nope!

  2. I’m sorry for the delay! It’s been a weekend. 🙂

Not New York City, although I’ve been there before. (Navy Brat)

Lemon will get rid of fish smell, we’ve learned from experience, but didn’t have any! It was SO GROSS, and my husband loathes getting smells on his hands, so bad experience all around.
