Gut Issues, Revisted: The Guttening

Or something like that.  I had no idea what to call this post!

BUT, we’re addressing my husband’s gut issues!!!

We have a new doctor.  The other clinic we’d been seeing doctors at was aggravating their doctors enough that they were leaving after 6-12 months, and that was aggravating us.  Because who likes retelling their health life story all the time and having the doctor suggest things that were already tried?

Or having them question your diagnosis because you have a psych disorder?  Like, look, yeah, I was diagnosed Bipolar in 2000, but I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in 1993.  My wheat allergy was caught in 2010.  THESE ARE NOT NEW DIAGNOSIS.

So, we have a new doctor.

We brought my husband in for an intake appointment, and we covered ALL of his stomach issues with her in as much detail as we could manage, and she pulled all of the records she could.

And you know what she said?

She said that there were HUGE swaths of obvious and dangerous things no one had tested for and was generally disgusted with that.  It’s obvious he’s really sick, and getting brushed off with an IBS diagnosis was really frustrating for us.  They were all ‘fix your diet and he’ll be fine’, but you know what?  We got him down to eating RICE and BEEF and he was still sick.  *scowl*

So she’s sending him to a gastro doctor and an allergist.  (Not, I might note, the allergist who was yanking my chain!)  She also did blood draws to test for 14 things, and she’ll be doing another in the near future to test for a bunch of vitamin deficiencies.

She’s at least trying SOMETHING, FINALLY.

I’m crossing my fingers that something gets turned up, because this isn’t fair to him.  It isn’t fair to live in misery every day of your life, ever since you were a small child, because no Doctor put the time in to actually figure out what is going on.

Wish us luck!

  1. I’m so glad you found such an awesome doc. I swear, some of them are so quick to write things off with either a pill or “Try to lower your stress/change your diet!” because they either don’t know or don’t care about newer tests and technologies.

Fingers crossed that this one will get to the root and actually fix it!

  2. Soooo glad this is finally happening for him!! Keep us posted please on how this goes!!
