Veggies for The End of the World

Recently a prepper blogger I follow had a bunch of giveaways, and one of them was for a vertical planting column from the GreenStalk Vertical Garden company, and I took a look at them.

I didn’t win the giveaway, but I DID buy two of the planters on steep discount because they were discontinuing the colors.

Ya’ll, I can grow veggies in JANUARY with these!

When they arrived, they were WAY bigger than anticipated, because apparently I can’t figure dimensions in my head easily.

They weren’t going to fit in my closet.

They needed to fit in my closet.

That’s where all the grow lights are.

Which meant MOAR MOVING AND SORTING.

Again, this is a space that hasn’t been touched since ~2013.

Here’s a shot showing the space during my room resort.

It’s on the far right, and it was FULL of clothing with my grow table squeezed in.

First, I sorted all of the boxes and clothing. I threw out 3/4 of the clothing and filled 4 giant garbage bags.

Then the hanging clothes moved to the hallway closet and Tundra’s couch came out.

It’s temporarily at the end of our bed while I wait for a new bed to arrive.

Ya’ll.

Ya’ll, he is SO MAD at me right now. He’s sulking and avoiding me and staring longingly into his closet.

Sorry, puppy.

Gotta grow greens for the end of the world.

So, the set up now.

From the entrance:

Looking in deeper:

There’s some storage up above that I will work through yet, but for now this is what it looks like.

Do you SEE how big those pots are?

I have dirt coming to fill them, which is another story entirely, but they’re HUGE!

The original size with hand comparison:

This size is five tiers. We switched the waterers on the top for lolz, so you can ignore that.

A full shot:

The greens size which is seven tiers with hand comparison:

The whole thing:

They come up to my collarbones. They’re SO big!

I have a third coming along with wheeled bases for them that will let me move them AND keep water from going everywhere.

So that’s my set up as of this weekend, waiting on moar stuff.

And I did discover that I probably never have to buy wrapping paper again!

What do you think?

I’m so excited!

  1. I really like the new grow pots. You can have home grown lettuce in January!
