If you know anything about me, you know that I am a reader, going through between 3 and 5 books a week.
Yeah, I know. It’s not nearly as fast as some folks out there, but it isn’t a contest, it’s the journey, ya’ll.
And I’m totally for Indie authors and ebooks. Ebooks are amazing. I no longer have to carry around bags full of books JUST IN CASE the one I was reading ended and I had to choose the next one.
I jumped on the second generation Nook, and I was SOLD on ebooks, even if not many books were available yet.
Now, it’s different, and there are endless books to read.
I also bailed on Barnes and Noble when it became clear they were sinking. No offense, but I don’t want to lose my books!
Instead of a bag, I carry a Kindle reader around full to the brim with books that weigh nothing.
Secretly though, deep in my heart, I was unfaithful to this Kindle.
I wanted a Paperwhite.
So badly.
But the reader just keeps on trucking, and the price on Paperwhites has stayed high. Until a few weeks ago when Amazon emailed me with a deal for a $60 Paperwhite. There were some details – I had to pay it in five, no-interest installments which I suspect was an attempt to keep cash flowing during the holidays.
But, whatever.
Ya’ll, that money FLEW out of my pocket.
So, here’s my very first unboxing post!
First of all, I ordered the screen protectors at the same time. They’re INVALUABLE, and I never use a device now until I’ve put one on.

A look at the screen protectors:

Each set comes with two, so if you royally destroy the first one, you can try again. They’re not hard, just finicky, and dog fur is a real problem with them.
Then a peek of the inside:

And a box inside a box!

First look at the Kindle and the cord that came with it. SO EXCITING.
Then a quick few minutes to put the protector on. Got it on the first try this time because it had barely been open a few nanoseconds. There were two air bubbles, but no hairs which is a miracle in and of itself.
Turning it on:

And then set up which always seems to take forever.

Aaaaaand… it’s live!

It figures that the only book from my list visible is one that appears smutty. I’d tell you it’s not, but there’s totally a few steamy scenes in there.
It is a good book though, and it saved what page I was on.

And a look at the back:

I chose blue because green was out of stock.
So far, I’ve had no problems with it. It’s lightweight and easy to use and read with just one hand which is amazing for when I’m eating dinner and want to read. (You were thinking something else, weren’t you?) But, no. I like reading while I eat.
It says that it’s waterproof, but I will NOT be testing that. At least not on purpose!
Connected to the internet, no issues, downloaded books, no issues, and for when I want to read in bed in the middle of the night because I’m manicky and can’t sleep… it reverses so the background is black and the font is white which makes it easier on my husband by not lighting everything up.
All in all, 10/10 would recommend!
What type of reading do you enjoy? I’m particularly fond of Urban Fantasy and Young Adult Urban Fantasy. Do you prefer print or ebooks? What do you read ebooks on? Inquiring minds want to know!
