Kristen Lamb and How I Decide What to Post

So, if you aren’t already familiar with her, Kristen Lamb is a social media and platform/brand expert.  Her book, ‘Rise of the Machines’ has been a huge help with my decision of how to blog, and I will admit I’ve taken her blogging class.

Her biggest point is that people want to connect to you as a person, not to hear you spam ‘BUY MY BOOK’ relentlessly at them.

But that doesn’t answer the question of what you should blog about!

She also makes the point that readers aren’t interested in the nitty gritty of your daily writing life – that’s interesting MAYBE to other writers but probably not.  Unless you’re famous of course.

So again, what do you blog about?

One of the things Kristen has you do in her book is create a Word Cloud of words that describe you, your interests, your beliefs.  This is what makes up the core of you, and things that full in this cloud are things you should blog about because visitors want to know you as a person.

So, I thought for amusement’s sake I would include part of my word cloud here.  *smile*

Ready?

Let’s go!

Wife, childless, wolf-dog, EDS, Bipolar, allergies, rural area, Rivers & Bluffs, Japanese, UW Madison, 7 1/2 years in college, finance, paying down debt, Assessing, gardening, summer storms, tornado fear, Texas, OKCupid, artwork, survived many bad situations, how to deal with doctors, your responsibility as a patient, optimistic, depression, mania, rapid cycling, devastating life, hope, geeky, reading, writing novels, YA writing, prepping, disaster preparedness, frugal, weight issues, Keto.

Now keep in mind, this was a full page of items, but these are some of the more important ones.

But it gives me somewhere to start, you know, when I’m stuck.

If you had to create a word cloud about yourself, what would you include?
