Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Is My New Favorite Game

For my birthday this year, my husband gave me a copy of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, and I’ve been having a TON of fun!  The voice acting is so terrible it’s entertaining, but the art is pretty, and the controls are fantastic.  My husband even likes how well the characters move and react, and he has a ton more experience than I do.

So far, I have the highest score for a stage, but I’ll admit up front that I have it on Easy Mode.

The story is in section, each of them based on a particular character, and I have the first three (of eight? I’d have to check) complete.  Here, I’m playing Cornelius in his unfortunately cursed Pooka state.  But I’ll have to get some pictures of the other characters!  The rest are more human looking.

These are some of the things that affect your score.

And my second highest score:

The game is SO much fun that I’m doling it out in small doses to make it last… and to make sure I sleep on a regular basis and work on my novel.  (Because I’ll never get published if I don’t actually WRITE and REVISE.)

And for your amusement, some video of me playing!

It’s an older game that was redone, and it released last summer, but it’s still full price everywhere we looked.  My husband got the demo, and I liked that so much I played it through three times, so that convinced him I actually would play it if he bought it for me.  And I am!

Traditionally, I play MMORPGs, specifically DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) and GW/GW2 (Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2).  I had played a few computer games as a kid, things like Duke Nukem 2, Cosmos, Tie Fighter vs. X-Wing, but not a whole lot.  In college, a roommate introduced me to DAoC – she needed someone who had never played before to play it and answer questions for a computer science paper, and I got hooked.

In fact,  I made such good friends with some folks in Montreal, that when they complained no one visited them my other roommate and I went cross country to visit them, and she fell in love with the guy and moved there!  Crazy drive – Madison, WI to Montreal!  They have two kids, my god kids, and they’re an adorable couple almost 13 years later.  Wild, right?

They’re the ones I was supposed to visit this year!  *sniff*  That was a huge disappointment.

But I never have played console games, so when I started dating my husband, he insisted I try Kirby’s Epic Yarn and bought it for me.

Now, to give you an idea of how fumble fingered and terrible I was, I died repeatedly EVERY LEVEL, and he had to CARRY me through some of the levels so we could beat the game!  And then he did all the completionist stuff so I could see a 100% which was super sweet of him.  That was the first time I got to see closing credits on a game!

Now I can play well enough to occasionally beat him at Mario Kart.   (Which says a lot – his genre is racing games, and he’s ridiculously good at them.)  I do lose interest in games pretty quickly though.  Up until my birthday I was playing Zelda: Breathe of the Wild pretty much every day.  I love it!   I’ll have to get some screen captures and post that as well.  *smile*

What video games do you play?  Inquiring minds want to know!
