Thursday September 13th, Southwest Wisconsin was SLAMMED with a storm that flooded all sorts of places.
One of them was our house – mildly flooded. The other was my parents’ house – very flooded.
Right now I’m just talking about our house.
Here was our backyard:
Pretty muddy water:
Water rushing down the hill across from us and across our yard. The street was impassible and there were emergency vehicles further down stopping traffic.
That part wasn’t so bad, just alarming.
But when my husband checked the basement:
It got up to about a food and half. We’re waiting to see if our furnace (and A/C outside!) is okay. It’s up on cinder blocks already:
And it all came rushing in down the storm cellar’s old door. The previous owner built a laundry room over it, but he apparently didn’t actually seal the walls to the ground.
It’s mostly empty now, just an inch or so of mud that we have to figure out how to deal with. But we’ll have to have the furnace/a/c inspected before we can use them. I’m REALLY hoping their okay because while we can afford the furnace, a/c systems are SO EXPENSIVE.
Cross your fingers for us!
Were you in an area that was hit by the storm? All of my posts this week are storm related, just to give you a head’s up. Inquiring minds want to know!
This is like a nightmare! I felt my pulse go up just looking at pictures of the basement – and it’s not even my basement! I hope everything dries up soon, that’s just so awful.
Thank you! It was very surreal. We were panicky, but there was absolutely nothing we could do about it but stand and watch.
