Finding Your Voice: Practice 02

Second practice from the Finding Your Voice class I bought from Holly Lisle.  This is not an affiliate link, although if you decide you want to buy a class from her, you can contact me, and I’ll set on up so we both benefit.  *smile*

He stood with the ocean before him, with the village behind him, and he did not look back.  He knew he would never stand on that shore again.  For before him lay an endless sea and adventures of the sort he had only dreamed of for surely, surely dragons were real.

How could anyone look into those crystal depths, familiar since his first steps yet birthed anew by the ticket in his hand and the well earned coin in the pouch at his side, and not yearn for the unknown?  Six months a scribe, one mistake caught, and he was a wealthy man.

And free.  Free to plumb the depths for the elusive mermaid, scour the skies for the bright glint of the phoenix, and most of all search the woods for the enchanting dryad, the people of leaf and wood and bone.  Fair maidens who dissolved into water when seen, fair maidens with dark secrets.

Fair maidens who lurked by watery graves and gnawed the bones of the meek and unwary youth in his village.

Six months a scribe and ten years of study, all to discover the answer to the village’s bane was unattainable.

Unreachable.

And this?  Unacceptable.  He took a deep breath, and like the knights before him, facing the fierce, he girded his loins and took his first step into the unknown.
