We have a chipping sparrow that has been fighting his reflection in our windows all week, and he was starting to look a bit beat up. So my husband came up with a solution! I found this on my desk when I woke up: Which, not going to lie, I was little confused until I … Continue reading In Case of Chipping Sparrow

My Husband Put Up Bird Feeders!
Okay, this totally needed photos! We already had this feeder on the existing Shephard's hook. My mom gifted my husband with this one: And so I got him a matching one because hummingbirds will fight to the death over a feeder: And of course, if you have hummingbird feeders, you have to have oriole feeders … Continue reading My Husband Put Up Bird Feeders!
ALL the Birthdays!
And thus our yearly birthday bash begins! Tonight we celebrate with my in-laws for my father-in-law's birthday. Tomorrow we celebrate with my mom for hers. Tuesday we celebrate for mine! Although I'll open presents tomorrow so I can spend my birthday quietly with my husband. And of course I waited until the last possible minute … Continue reading ALL the Birthdays!
A Greenhouse and a Surprise!
I sometimes spend time browsing our local Facebook buy/sell/trades, and in 2019 or so, I found an ad for a greenhouse, in box, never opened. Of course I bought it. I think it was ~$50. At the time, the woman I bought it from said they'd bought it for her mom three years ago, and … Continue reading A Greenhouse and a Surprise!
Kauai O’o: Extinction
When I hear an animal or bird has gone extinct I'm sad, but in a distant way. Have I ever seen or heard of this species? Am I sad just on principal? I've never cried over it. More often I'm angry about it. Until I found this bird species' last song. This is the Kauai … Continue reading Kauai O’o: Extinction
Spoiled Little Birdies
Did you know that Sunflower seeds come in 50 pound bags? I didn't, until today. I'd been buying 25-30 pound bags, and when it was snowy and hard to find food, I'd take pity on the little feathered beasties and fill the feeder, put up a suet block, and cover all the rails with seed. … Continue reading Spoiled Little Birdies
Chickadees Eat Meat?
My father-in-law caught a deer! No photos included, ya'll, because yuck. We went over on Sunday to see him, and he was in the porch, deer hung up, butchering it. It was pretty gory. Which, I thought it would be harder than it was to see the deer. But it really didn't bother me other … Continue reading Chickadees Eat Meat?
Mealworms, Mealworms Everywhere!
This last winter, we fed the birds because the snow got a bit crazy, and I was worried the little feathered mooches would die. So we bought a bag of sunflower seeds and a bag of mealworms. We eventually used up the sunflower and stopped feeding them. I stashed the mealworm bag under my desk … Continue reading Mealworms, Mealworms Everywhere!
So Many Birdies!
This cold spell has been hard on the bird population, so we've started feeding again. My husband took some photos for me, and the gold finches were going to town the other morning! It was sleeting, but they didn't care; they were all about the sunflower seeds! And another photo: They're so cute! I just … Continue reading So Many Birdies!
Caught You, Red Headed Woodpecker!
Okay, I can't take credit for this at all, but my husband caught a photo of the Red Headed Woodpecker! He had to zoom in like crazy, hence the graininess - I don't have a particularly nice camera. But! There it is! PROOF! And I just had to share. *smile*
