I am delighted.
I just saw the new trailer for Guild Wars 2, and there’s going to be a third expansion! It’s not due to come out until 2021, but I’m excited, and I’m hoping they’ll explore the asian continent from the first game.
Are you not familiar with Guild Wars 2? It’s a buy once then free to play MMORPG that we’ve been playing since it released in August 2012. There are transactions, but none of them affect your progression in the game; they’re just niceties and fun little things to have.
Unlike Guild Wars 1, the maps are open and shared with other players, although story quests are instanced. There is PvP, but that isn’t something I enjoy so I don’t play it.
Players are encouraged to work together through events that occur on the maps and things like receiving XP for healing and bring back to life another character. This is the first MMO I’ve played where people stop to help each other randomly.
There are multiple ‘races’ you can be – ranging from plant based Sylvari to the cat-like Charr and the genius Asura. I usually play just a human, but I have a character of each type because I wanted to try them out.
There are neat details like if you shoot an arrow through an Elementalist’s fire spell, it becomes a flaming arrow.
World events CHANGE THE WORLD. On particular city is destroyed during a Living World event and it’s legit destroyed. Part are rebuilt, but it will never be the same again.
If any of this sounds interesting, you can check it out here with descriptions of what the game has to offer.
Personally, I love the game. I took a break from it for a few years while I was working too hard and generally sick, but I’m back to it now, and it’s so much fun! I play with my husband and friends from college.
What type of games do you enjoy?
